SNOW REMOVAL SAFETY Nearly 11,500 people are sent to the ER every year with snow removal injuries, Take care this winter season with some snow removal safety or call your Bend Handyman to save the day!
• DON’T WAIT UNTIL THE SNOW IS DEEP– it’s easier on your body to shovel a couple inches snow more often, than to dig in to deep snow and lift heavy amounts.
• WARM UP —Removing snow is a strenuous activity, make sure and warm-up with some shoulder rolls or jumping jacks before you go outside
• PUSH IT REAL GOOD... DON’T LIFT—If you can push/plow your snow that is a great option! Lifting can lead to injury so if you must do it, make sure you do it properly. Proper lifting requires a squatting, back straight, lifting with your legs..
KEEP IT CLOSE AND SMALL— As we talked about above, try to shovel the snow before it gets too deep. Small amounts of snow are easier to lift and create less strain on your spine. Keep the shovel close, make sure to never hold a shovel of snow to far away from your body because it will put too much weight on your spine.
